SITUATION: NC State University’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (EI) hit an obstacle early in the program’s development. With an audience ranging from current program participants to prospective participants to donors and local community members, the EI needed a way to reach each audience without neglecting the others. The Initiative called on BEC to find a way to make the website a functional portal and online community that would be interactive and useful for all its target audiences.

SOLUTION: BEC completed a total re-design of the website, one that allows any user to get anywhere in the site within two clicks. The site’s home page directly appeals to the program’s three target audiences: prospective participants, current participants and external community members. Through a clean, three-column layout, BEC found a way to personalize its unique messages for each audience. The site is full of interactive features-blogs, student profiles, media, course pages, news features and online management capabilities, all of which engage users in an exciting way.

SUCCESS: The success of the website is evident. Enrollment in introductory entrepreneurship courses grew by 33% for the Fall 2011 semester. Put the program at maximum capacity, a first-time accomplishment since the EI began. The Entrepreneurship has continued to work with BEC for other digital marketing projects, including an innovative and rewarding social media campaign.
